John Oster Sr began the John Oster Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisconsin in 1924. Furthermore, Oster primarily catered to the barber and beauty salon supply market. Over time, Oster expanded its product range to include massage equipment and other beauty care items.

The Sunbeam Corporation acquired the Oster Company in 1980. Finally, in 1993 after many twists and turns the Sunbeam-Oster emerged. It continues to this day.
