This is the Ulu Cutting Board for the Ulu Knife. The Ulu Factory uses walnut to make this medium cutting bowl only. They manufactured this in Anchorage, Alaska.

This cutting bowl is made from walnut. Many tools have come from the Indigenous People of Alaska. The Alaska Ulu knife is foremost. The Ulu knife was their main cutting tool. In fact, the Indigenous People originally used flat thin, rocks to fashion the Ulu knife. They made the handles from wood, ivory, or bone. and often decorated with distinctive markings of the craftsman.

To this day, the Native People still use this traditional knife. Especially when the salmon are abundant in the summer. Not only Natives, but people around the world rely on the ulu for everyday cutting.

The Ulu Factory uses the highest grade of American stainless steel to produce the Ulu knife. First, workmen stamp the shape out of the sheet of metal. Second the workmen then bevel the edge. Treating the blade to 1950 degrees Fahrenheit assures that it will hold the edge.

Polishing is the third step. Polishing is the third step in the process. The final step is to grind the edge on the blade.

Further, workmen then attach the Birch or Walnut handle. There is a final quality inspection. The Ulu receives a final coat of oil before it is packaged for presentation.

The Ulu minces herbs, chops nuts, slices cheese, pizza and meat. Also, it cleans and fillets fish and dresses game. The cutting board is a nice compliment to the Ulu knife.

Equally important, this medium board measures 7-1/4″ x 7-1/4″ x 1-1/2″. The Ulu Knife measures 4″ tall with a blade that is 6″ when measured from tip to tip with a straight ruler.
