Description
The Dovo 201-081 Shavette Razor is a disposable blade straight razor. The blade is disposable so it can be change as it becomes dull. This Shavette comes with a clear sleeve, which only holds the shorter 1-3/4″ disposable blade. Made by Dovo in Solingen, Germany.
The Shavette has a plastic handle and aluminum shank. The removable clear plastic sleeve, which firmly holds the short razor blade, slides into the aluminum shank.
Any Shavette handle can hold either the clear sleeve or the black sleeve. The black sleeve is for the longer blades. A clear sleeve automatically comes with this order. Heimerdinger Cutlery carries the replacement blades, clear sleeves and black sleeves. Both the long and the short blades are double edged. They must be broken in half to fit in a Shavette.
BELOW ARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSERTING A BLADE: ALSO SEE VIDEO BELOW: (not posted at this time)
First, while leaving the razor blade in the paper, fold the blade in half. Alternatively, hold the double-edge blade with a needle nose pliers on the shorter side of the blade. Have the long sharp edge resting against a soft cushioned surface. Then bend the blade until it snaps in half lengthwise.
Second, take the clear sleeve out of the aluminum shank of the handle. You can slide it out the end. TIP: Sometimes it is helpful to use pliers to get a grip on the sleeve to pull it out.
Open the clear sleeve. You will notice that on one side there are two very small posts near the narrow side of the sleeve. On the other half there are two holes that the posts go into. Place the sleeve in front of you with the narrow side of the sleeve toward you. The posts should be pointing up.
Always handle the blade carefully because it is very sharp. You will notice that there is an indention just past each end of the sharp edge. Lay the blade so the indentations rest in between the posts of the sleeve. As a result, the sharp edge protrudes slightly from the narrow side of the sleeve.
Next, hold the blade near the open end of the sleeve, and carefully squeeze the sleeve closed with your thumb and finger at the fold of the sleeve. Next, gradually close the sleeve completely, making sure the blade does not move out of position.
Finally, hold the sleeve securely at the open end. Make sure you are holding the sleeve by the top part away from the protruding blade edge. Then carefully slide the sleeve into the shank of the razor handle, making sure the blade does not slip out of place.
Be sure to hold the sleeve securely until the sleeve is completely in the shank. ALWAYS exercise extreme care when inserting or removing the razor-filled sleeve from the shank.
