Victorinox Swiss Classic is a modern-day icon of quality and functionality. Formerly imported by the R.H Forschner Company, their kitchen cutlery and pocket knives are known the world over.
In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. Switzerland was still one of the poorer countries in Europe. So, Mr. Elsener worked to combat poverty by creating jobs.
In 1891, he supplied the soldier’s knife to the Swiss Army for the first time. He went on to develop the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife – now the iconic Swiss Army Knife.
There is a patent on the original Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife. It is known around the world today as the “Swiss Army Knife”.
From then on, his spirit of solidarity, deep roots in the region and strong commitment to solid values shaped the Victorinox company philosophy.
In memoriam of his mother, Karl Elsener chooses her first name Victoria as the brand name. He registers the emblem with the cross and shield as a trademark. Today it is a registered trademark in over 120 countries.
The invention of stainless steel (Inox) is a highly significant development for the cutlery industry and Victorinox Swiss Army. The combination of the two words “Inox” and “Victoria” results in today’s company and brand name – Victorinox.
Victorinox Swiss Army guarantees that its products meet the highest standards in all areas. At this company, quality comes first. Additionally, Victorinox manufactures most of its products in Switzerland.
Furthermore, this level of quality has allowed Victorinox to become a leader in Switzerland and the rest of the world.
