In addition save yourself some time by using this manufactured guard in your home or professional projects. Using this item adds beauty to that custom knife. Therefore It becomes an integral part of the handle.
A Brass Crowned Guard will protect the user’s hand from sliding forward and prevent nasty cuts. Moreover, guards also add balance as well as interest to the design. By machining this guard you can make it to your own dimensions and shape.
This Brass Crowned Guard will polish to a high shine and enhance any handmade knife. The sub hilt technique uses two guards, one facing forward and one backward creating a slot for the finger to provide a better grip. Equally important, adding two guards, one facing forward and one backward provides a finger hole. For example see the picture below, a knife made by Gil Hibben.
Also, the CP232 Brass Crowned Guard is also very durable and functional. Furthermore, a result using two guards in this manner will add interest to the handle.
Filing the shape of the tang will give a secure mechanical fit. Also, for a precise fitting, you have to have the tang thinner than the slot in the guard.
