Description
DR-386005 Cuticle Nipper 4″ with 3/8″ Jaw also 5mm. It is Nickel Plated. Solingen master grinders hand-hone the cutting edge. Heimerdinger imports these directly from Solingen, Germany. This nipper comes with double springs. Additionally using a slightly contoured or beveled shank provides a more comfortable grip.
The box joint gives more stability to the cutting edges. Finally the edges are directly opposite each other. Equally important, milling one blade in the shape of a box prevents sideways movement. Then inserting the other blade into and through the box holds the edges in alignment.
However, a box joint is more expensive than a lap joint. Laying one blade on top of the other blade creates a lap joint. A lap joint is similar to scissors. It is much better for these small and delicate cuticle nippers to have a box joint, because a lap joint can loosen up much more quickly and the cutting edges will lose their alignment.
As in all quality nippers, the cutting edges of this DR-386005 Cuticle Nipper 4″ first meet at the very tip, leaving a wedge-like gap between the edges. Applying stronger pressure causes the edges to close and cut in a rocking fashion like a knife on a cutting board.
Dreiturm forges the DR-386005 Cuticle Nipper 4″ in Solingen, Germany. Forging makes the metal harder so the nippers will stay sharp longer.
These DR-386005 Cuticle Nipper 4″ cuticle nippers are stainless steel with a satin finish. Because they are stainless steel they not rust in moist conditions and can be sterilized. However, they might be more properly termed “stain resistant,” since they could possibly stain under extremely adverse conditions. The stains are not rust, and will not affect their quality performance.
The “jaw” is where the cutting edges on a cuticle nipper meet. The best jaw length depends on your personal preference. In our experience, the 3/16″ jaw is the most popular size for cutting cuticles. However, some customers want the 1/8″ jaw to cut a tiny bit at a time.
Although some prefer the larger sizes, which are 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″. Technically, a “quarter jaw” is 3/16″, a “half jaw,” is 1/4″ and “full jaw,” is 1/2″
