This is a standard blade for the Classic 76 and for the Power Pro Clippers. These handcrafted Oster blades now last longer and cut better due to Oster’s state-of-the art production facility’s new equipment, new tools and new heat-treating process. The result is consistent blade quality, consistent metallurgy, a Rockwell Hardness (HCR) of 62, and maximized performance.
The Cryogen-x treatment is a cryogenic tempering process that deep freezes Oster blades to 300 degrees F below zero. Therefore, the outcome of deep cryogenics is to dramatically increase the steel’s durability. To the stylist this means that not only do the new Oster Cryogen-x blades start out sharp, they also stay sharper longer, thus requiring less sharpening than conventional blades.
John Oster Sr began the John Oster Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisconsin in 1924. Additionally, Oster primarily catered to the barber and beauty salon supply market. Over time, Oster expanded its product range to include massage equipment and other beauty care items.
Next during World War II, the company switched from beauty care products such as the Oster 76911-056 Clipper Blade Size 0A to the production of small electric motors for military planes.
When the company returned to civilian production at the war’s end, its experience as a manufacturer of small machines did not go to waste. A year after the war, the Oster company began producing housewares with a blender it called the Osterizer. That quickly became a household word.
Furthermore, the success of this product led to expansion into other related businesses. And then in the 1950s, Oster acquired the Northern Electric Company, which produced such consumer items as electric blankets and mattresses, vaporizers, thermostats and humidifiers, a variety of hair dryers, hair setters, and mirrors.
Finally, in 1980, the Oster Company was acquired by the Sunbeam Corporation. And again, in 1993 after many twists and turns the Sunbeam-Oster emerged. It continues to this day.
